Was the HTC One X+ Needed

At the beginning of the year, HTC said they were going to slow down on the number of phones they release. They've kept to that promise. However, the HTC One X+ seems to be them saying they are having a hard time doing it.

The HTC One X is still a top of the line phone. The '+' improves upon that, but not much. The only changes are a slightly faster processor, bigger batter, more storage space and apparently, less color options. Not really enough to make current One X owners race to buy it's older brother. No one that isn't already lured from another phone to the One X is now going to be lured to the One X+ either.

The only really significant thing about the One X+, is that it will ship with Jelly Bean (Android 4.1), with Sense+ on top. It's almost a certainty that the One X will also see Jelly Bean at some point. But now with the impending release of the One X+, HTC will probably hold of a while before putting Jelly Bean on the One X.

Why not just focus on upgrading the current One X to Jelly Bean as soon as possible? Why bother on releasing such an incremental upgrade to hardware? Maybe HTC was already in the works on the One X+ before they decided to stop releasing so many phones and this will be the last time we see this type of thing from HTC.

I'd really like to see them do what Apple and Samsung have been doing. Releasing a flagship phone once a year.
